![]() Other than that, IDKĬase: I want something with ample HDD slots and is the "tower" style, not the rack style, as I don't have anywhere to put a rack. I also know that the PSU and the motherboard need to be compatible. Power Supply: I know some cases come with PSU and some don't. People say to make sure it has enough ports, I just don't know what ports and all to look for. Motherboard: ? This is definitely a component I know nothing about. Not sure what brand or anything, but everything I've read has said that the more RAM the better, but you need at least 8gb. Not sure if it's needed, but an inexpensive one I've seen suggested in the Nvidia P400 HP. GPU: I've seen some builds use them and some not. So, unless other CPUs that will work cost significantly less or this is for some reason incompatible, I'm gonna roll with it This is probably overkill, I know, but I'd rather have it and not need it and need it and not have it. I also don't want to spend $1000 on this if possible.ĬPU: Intel i5 10600k (I found a 2nd hand one on facebook for $100 that was used for 2 weeks in a gaming rig, but was then replaced with an i7). I generally don't see more than 2-3 streams going at a time, but there is a potential that it could be as high as 7, if everyone in my family decides to jump on their own device and watch. Furthermore, I plan on running unRaid, as that seems to be a reliable OS (I understand it's a paid OS) for file security. Also, I'd like to have the ability to add more drives if necessary, so I'd like a case that can fit more than 1 or 2 drives (the 5tb hdd on the Pi is already half full and I'm not even half way though the collection). No one in my family games, so nothing like that. My use case will be for Plex, but probably also general file storage (NAS) as well, as I do a lot of CAD work on the side, and those files chew up storage space pretty quick. I have tried to do a bit of research here on Reddit, on Plex's forums, on Youtube, and even on forums, but everyone's use case is different, so while I've tried to figure out some stuff. With that being said, I know basically nothing about building computers or servers. So, while it was a great way to try out PleX, it's definitely not a long-term solution, so it's time to build a real server ![]() So far it's been going good, but my setup, being simply a Raspberry Pi 3b+ and a 5TB external hard drive, is already showing the Pi's lack of computing power, as I have to manually convert everything to MP4, and can't just use the MKV files that I get from the DVDs, not to mention that the Pi really struggles with more than 1 stream direct play. I started playing around with PleX a couple of weeks ago as I've been digitizing my family's VHS&DVD collection and wanted a clean way for them to be able to access all the content, even going as far as buying a PlexPass.
